Struggling to find a present for the nerd in your life? Here are 3 ideas. |

If you're struggling to think of a present for the nerd in your life (yourself?), here are 3 ideas to help you: a game, a book about games and a book about murder mystery puzzles. |

Stuck for what to buy your loved one this Christmas? Here are 3 suggestions from Olly Owl.
Don't worry, Wise Owl haven't gone into earning money from affiliate links or sponsorship: we have absolutely no connection whatsoever with the makers, publishers or distributors of any of the following items!
Thanks to David Thompson for bringing this to our attention. Murdle is a book of logic puzzles, each of which is a murder mystery:

Although I confess I haven't got the book myself, the puzzles are clearly beautifully laid out and clever.
Marcus du Sautoy is a mathematician, but also an entertaining popular writer. Around the World in 80 Games uses probability and maths to explain the best way to win at 80 different games:

We play a lot of games of Settlers of Catan in our household, so it'll be interesting to read which strategy I should follow optimally. I suspect Jenny's strategy of single-mindedly trying to build the longest road, to the exclusion of all other tactics, is ... sub-optimal.
Backpacker is a card game which is probably most similar to Uno, but it's way better than that:
The cover of the game.
To give some idea of how many times we've played Backpacker in our househould, we are on our 3rd pack because the previous two eventually wore out. You can play with two, three or four players (you can actually play with any number, but I think it would be less fun with larger groups).
