Part eight of an eight-part series of blogs

Having recently compared the 4 main AI tools for text prompts, I thought I'd do the same for image generation tools. In this blog series we compare Dall-E (via ChatGPT and separately via Copilot), Firefly, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion for 3 pre-defined tests to see which ones score most highly for cost, ease-of-use, speed, editing ability and above all for quality of image.

When I started creating this blog - before I'd done any tests - I was expecting that this last part would be hard to write. I knew that the fussy interface of Midjourney would annoy me, but was expecting that the quality of the images generated would more than compensate, and I thought Firefly and Stable Diffusion would blow me away.

Here's what actually happened:

Based on my experiences, here's my advice:

Use Copilot (or ChatGPT if you have the licence for this instead; it uses the same underlying Dall-E image generation tool) for all of your text-to-image work.
Avoid Midjourney, unless you're happy for the world to see exactly what you're doing all of the time and you don't mind the finicky Discord user interface (and slow image creation time).
Avoid Firefly until Adobe have improved the quality of its images.
Avoid Stable Diffusion at all costs!

As I said at the end of the previous part of this blog, please do let me know if I've trashed your favourite tool for no good reason, and I will (if I agree with you) immediately update this blog.
