Announcing Bravo, a new add-in for Power BI |
---|
Marco Russo of sqlbi.com is a (the?) expert in Power BI, so any new tool announced by him has to be worth consideration. Bravo is a new Power BI add-in which lets you analyse your data models, format your DAX, automate the creation of date tables and export data model tables to Excel. |
Marco Russo of sqlbi.com has announced via YouTube a new add-in for Power BI called Bravo (strapline: "your Power BI buddy"). It seems that Bravo will have 4 main functions (it's currently in beta release):
Function | Notes |
---|---|
Analysing your data model | Work out which tables and columns in your model are taking the most memory. |
Formatting DAX | Add indentation and colour-coding to format DAX neatly (this is, I presume, just an extension of the service offered by DAX Studio, Bravo's predecessor from the same stable). |
Time automation | Bravo can add a calendar to your model with all sorts of different options for languages and holidays, and also create some standard DAX measures. |
Exporting to Excel | You can export the tables in your model to Excel workbooks or CSV files. |
Bravo can also export VPAX files, which provide a way of encapsulating the DAX included in a Power BI report in text format.
The feature to analyse a data model looks the most fun - here's an excerpt from Marco's video:
You can't really ask for more detail than this!
You can drill down to see more detail for any table:
Highlighting the columns in an individual table.
Marco says several times in the video that you should back up your existing PBIX files before using Bravo, so I would definitely wait for the final release before trying it. I must admit there wasn't any single feature which made me think that I'd use it, but perhaps one shouldn't judge the software by its first preview.
