Power BI Desktop Update - April 2022 Part two of a two-part series of blogs |
---|
A small update this month, with the main change being the addition of a few formatting options for matrices and chart legends.
We've been creating our idiosyncratic monthly blogs on Power BI updates since November 2016, and also deliver online and classroom Power BI courses. |
In this blog
The new formatting toolbar in Power BI is still in preview, but it will enter general release next month (and because it's been turned on by default since February, you're almost certainly already using it). In addition to fixing a number of bugs and omissions, Microsoft have rolled out 3 improvements.
You can now set top, bottom, right or left borders for the column header, row header and values section of a matrix separately:
This unpleasant matrix has a red border all the way round the column headers, a green border to the left and right of the row headers and a dark blue border above and below the values section.
Here are the new settings for changing matrix borders:
The new card for changing the different border colours.
When you click on the Section dropdown shown above, you see these choices:
You can choose which bit of a matrix to apply changes to.
Did you know that this wasn't previously possible? Me neither:
In this matrix I've coloured the row and column grand totals differently - because I can!
Here are the settings for these:
You can see the colours I've applied to get the unpleasant effect above.
You can now show a legend in more positions:
Apparently the Top right and Bottom right positions are new.
Here's a Top right stacked legend:
Here the legend appears at the top right of the chart.
And here's the same legend in the oh-so-different Top right position:
The difference is that here "top" is more important than "right", whereas in the previous legend "right" is more important than "top".
