Answers to/winner of our Easter film pictures competition |
---|
We had 27 entries for our Easter 2023 picture rebus competition - we hope you had as much fun solving it as we did creating the puzzles! |
In this blog
I hope everyone enjoyed doing this competition as much as I enjoyed setting it! Here are the answers.
The 5 "easy" films were as follows:
The first 5 films were easy, although a number of people got the 5th one wrong.
The correct answers were:
Number | Film | Derivation |
---|---|---|
1 | Finding Nemo | ... in a word search |
2 | Reservoir dogs | A reservoir and some dogs! |
3 | Notting Hill | Knitting Hill, with signalled adjustments |
4 | Wall-E | Wall (VAN)E |
5 | Braveheart | An Indian brave and a heart |
The 5 "medium" films were:
Quite a few people got the first two wrong (one person putting Transformers as an answer to the second one, which isn't a bad guess).
The answers were:
Number | Film | Derivation |
---|---|---|
1 | Thelma and Louise | That's Thelma from the 1970s comedy Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads, and Louise Brown (the world's first test-tube baby). I regret choosing such an obscure Thelma. |
2 | The Matrix Revolutions | This one is exactly what the picture shows! Two people guessed Tennet for this. |
3 | La La Land | La La being the name of the yellow Teletubbie shown. |
4 | Titanic | Or TI(E) + TAN + IC(E) |
5 | Pulp Fiction | The first picture is of Sheffield rock band Pulp, fronted by Jarvis Cocker; the second one shows the effect of friction (from which you must remove the R). |
The 5 "hard" films were:
The first and last ones were my favourites, although they weren't to everyone's taste.
The answers were:
Number | Film | Derivation |
---|---|---|
1 | Every which way but loose | Every witch way is shown apart from "Loose". It seems that this film title isn't quite as famous as I thought it was - apologies. |
2 | Batman | BATH-MAN loses his H. |
3 | Brokeback Mountain | Brokeback is in indicator that you should break the letters BACK (in this case into KBCA). |
4 | No time to die | We have (Dr.) No + Time (as shown by a clock) + T(w)o Die(s) |
5 | To kill a mocking bird | Pronounced here as Tequila Mock-King Bird. The Mock-King is someone playing George III in the stage production of Hamilton; the cocktail shown is a tequila sunrise, from which you should remove the sunrise. |
The winner of the competition is Jackie Rutherford of Torus, whose name was the first drawn out of our randomised sorting hat (pleasingly, she was one of the people who got all of the answers correct, thus slightly increasing her chances of winning). Congratulations to Jackie, who wins this month's £50 Amazon voucher!
