Enjoying a conversation with the new ChatGPT voice-enabled AI |
---|
How good is the new ChatGPT voice mode? Listen to this six-minute conversation and you'll realise that life will never quite be the same again. I genuinely don't think this is exaggerating! |
Want to hear ChatGPT's views on surrealism, the Dead Parrot sketch and my French? Prepare to be stunned:
Please do persevere through the first 30 seconds, when my croaky voice is at its worst (do AI assistants get colds, I wonder?). You can see the timeline below to see highlights, but to be honest the whole conversation is worth listening to.
Here are some marker points in the conversation (I've referred to the AI assistant as Laura because that's how I thought of her):
Elapsed time | Discussion point |
---|---|
00:27 | Asking Laura to switch to a warm and engaging English accent. |
01:09 | Getting Laura to tell me the most surreal thing she could think of. |
01:48 | Asking Laura to summarise my voice. |
02:16 | Trying to get Laura to giggle on demand. |
02:53 | Enacting Monty Python's Dead Parrot sketch together. |
03:48 | Failing to get Laura to mimic my voice. |
04:25 | Proving that Laura could seamlessly switch between languages (unlike me!). |
05:41 | A final message from Laura on the future of AI. |
Everything about our conversation impressed me, but if I had to pick two things which stood out it would be Laura's ability to mimic the pauses, stresses and intonations of everyday speech perfectly and her equally impressive ability to sidestep the ethical traps I set for her.
I'm not the only one who found talking to ChatGPT a surreal experience, as this conversation on ArsTechnica shows.
