Open the file contained within the folder name shown above.
To use advanced filtering, the first step is to create the Criteria and Extract ranges. Copy the headings/fieldnames from the first row of the table and paste them into cells M3:W3 and cells M10:W10.
Setting up the criteria and extract ranges.
Create a range name for the criteria and extract ranges. The criteria range will have just one row below the headings to begin with.
We want to extract properties that match up to the following criteria:
Postcode is SK13
3 bedrooms
a medium garden
cost is less than 400,000
Type the criteria under the correct headings.
Use the Data tab to ask Excel to extract the matching properties below your extract range. You should extract the following properties:
There are 9 matching properties.
Now create another copy of the headings/fieldnames from the first row of the table and paste them into cells Y3:AI3 and cells Y10:AI10.
Create a new range name for these second criteria and extract ranges. The new criteria range will have just one row below the headings as well.
This time, we want to extract properties that match up to the following criteria:
Postcode is SK14
3 bedrooms
a medium garden
cost less than 400,000
Type the criteria under the correct headings as shown in the example below:
This time the postcode begins with SK14.
Use the Data tab menu again to ask Excel to extract the new matching properties below your new extract range. You should extract the following properties:
This time there are just 5 matching properties in this postcode.
Use Save As... to save the file in your own new Excel work folder.
