Add headings to an Excel business model giving the start and end of each month

Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file .

This exercise is about using date functions and formatting dates. First open the workbook in the above folder.

Create and format a formula in the yellow cell on the Cover sheet to contain today's date, and give it a range name:

Today date

Obviously your date will be later than the one shown above!

Now create formulae on the Inputs sheet using the EOMONTH function to fill in the start and date of the first month, by taking:

The start of the first month to be the end date of the month before the current one (i.e. one month back in time), plus one day

The end of the first month to be the month end date corresponding to this date

Your month headings should now look like this:

First month dates

The first month's headings are filled in (obviously yours will be different, since they depend on what day you're doing this exercise).

Using the hint below, create and copy formula across to fill in the rest of the month headings.

The start of the next month is one day after the end of the previous one!

Save this workbook as With dates, then close it down.
