In Excel (and other Microsoft Office products) you can use the Format Painter to copy formats from one place to another. To do this, select the formatted cell and from the ribbon choose Home | Format Painter.
I want to copy the formatting of cell B2.
You can then click on a single cell or click and drag a block of cells to copy the formatting to those cells.
Click on the target cell to copy the formatting to it.
Once you've clicked on a target cell, the Format Painter is deactivated automatically. This is annoying when you want to format lots of separate cells as you have to click the Format Painter tool again and again.
Instead, you can double-click the Format Painter to lock it to the mouse cursor:
Double-click the Format Painter.
You can now click on as many separate cells as you like to copy the formats to them without having to click the Format Painter tool again.
Click on as many separate cells as you like!
When you've finished copying formats, you can unlock the Format Painter by clicking the tool again, or by pressing Esc.
