The first ever Power BI DataViz World Championships |
---|
Fancy yourself as a Power BI guru? The four winners of the qualifying rounds for this inaugural competition will battle it out at the MGM in Las Vegas to become Power BI world champion! |
Fancy yourself as a Power BI guru, and want a free trip to Las Vegas? Now's your chance to prove your credentials! There are 4 qualifying rounds:
Dates | Theme | Winner |
---|---|---|
14-21 February | Love | Javier (you can see his winning entry out of the 129 entries received here) |
21-28 February | Travel | Not announced yet |
28 Feb to 07 March | Sports and activities | Not complete yet |
07 to 14 March | Not announced yet | Not begun |
The four winners (one from each qualifying round) will compete on 31st March live onstage at the Microsoft Fabric Community FabCon conference in Las Vegas (each will receive 3 nights of accommodation and a conference pass - worth an astonishing $2,000 - although not travel to the venue, it seems).
If you've only just heard about this, you may just have time to enter the third qualifying round (you'll need to join or be a member of the Fabric Community to do this) and can certainly participate in the fourth and final qualifying round. Submissions can score a maximum of 30 points as follows:
Category | Subcategory | Points |
---|---|---|
Insightfulness | Clarity of insights Relevance of insights | 5 each |
Visual effectiveness | Simplicity and cleanliness Effective use of text and colour Appropriateness of visual elements | 3 for the first two, 4 for the last one |
Accessibility | Tab order Alt text provision Colour contrast | 3 for the first two, 4 for the last one |
You can see the process for how to submit here.
Report design in Power BI (or any other software application) is inherently subjective. Probably the best tactic is to look at the entries from the first week that the judges liked, and try to reproduce their style. The competition won't test your data modelling or DAX skills (otherwise we would be a bit more enthusiastic about entering!).
