Power BI Desktop updates for March 2025 Part five of a five-part series of blogs |
---|
These updates were announced in the dying hours of the last day of March, presumably as part of the Fabric Community conference in Las Vega.

In this blog
The new card visual can now show different values for different categories:
This card is showing the total sales for each region. The categories are showing in a single column, with the header on the right showing text rotated.
Our Power BI Desktop update blog normally doesn't show preview features, but we suspect that most people are now using the new card (and have been doing so for some time). And to quote Microsoft directly: "The new card visual is steadily progressing towards becoming the official card, which will replace both the current card and multi-row card."
To enable the new card you'll have to turn it on in preview:
To see this dialog box select File -> Options and settings -> Options.
You'll then be abele to click on the new card visual icon:
The new card visual.
To create what used to be called a multi-row card like the one shown above, drag a field onto a new card's Categories data section:
Here we are showing total sales by region.
You can now say how you want your category (in our case, the regions) to appear:
Here we're going for a single column of regions, with a maximum of 3 showing at a time before a user needs to scroll up or down to see more.
You can now spend a very long time fine-tuning how each category appears:
Here I've gone for the labels on the right, rotated so the text appears sideways on.
You would be mad not to upgrade to the new card visual, as it seems almost certain that the old card will be turned off soon (and the new cards are so much better and more customisable).
