Basic line chart and Small Multiples

This exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to choose the correct Wise Owl Microsoft training course, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file .

Open a blank Power BI file and import data from Gym Class Data.xlsx from the folder shown above.

Add a Line chart with Class on the X axis and Attendees on the Y axis.

Change the label on the Y axis to read Total Attendees.

The basic line chart.

Now make the following formatting changes.

Y - axis Values: Off
Line Interpolation type: Smooth
Shade area: On
- Match line color: Off
- Color: Your choice
Markers: On
- Shape type: Your choice
- Color: Your choice

Data labels: On
- Background: On
- Color: Your choice
- Transparency: 40% approx

Your chart should look something like this.

Nobody wants to do planks!

Rename the page Line Chart and then duplicate the page.

Rename the duplicated page as Monthly.

With your chart selected, add Month from the Class Date Hierarchy to the Small multiples bucket.

Make the following formatting changes.

Small multiples
- Layout: 3 Columns
- Title Position: Bottom
- Title Alignment: Centre

You should now see something like this.

So much easier than creating 12 separate charts!

Save the file as Line charts are great.pbix
