When you create a Power BI KPI, you'll want it to indicate how well your data is performing against a target.
The Average Box Office is $5 million above the target of $140 million so everything's green.
The default setting assumes that everything above the target is good, but that's not always the case.
The Average Budget for the last year is $78 million but the target budget was limited to $75 million. Exceeding our budget isn't good.
When you want to set your KPI to reflect that being above the target is bad, you need to select the Format your visual panel.
Select you KPI visual and then choose this option.
Expand the Trend axis property.
Choose Low is good so that values below target are formatted in green and values above target are formatted in red.
The Trend axis property also allows you to set the colours to indicate good, bad and neutral scenarios.
If you don't like the standard red, amber, green, you can change them here.
Your KPI should now be indicating the predicament you're in correctly.
We need to rein in that spending!
