There are times when removing a filter in a DAX measure doesn't go as planned. One that always catches me out is removing the filter on the month name.
The measure should have returned 74143 for each month, what's going on?
The problem is that we've added a Sort by column to the Calendar Month Name so that the values are sorted by the Calendar Month. This makes sure that the months appear chronologically rather than alphabetically.
A sensible decision but with a secret side effect.
What you may not have realised is that by doing this the two columns become linked. When you use the sorted column in a visual, behind the scenes the Sort by column is also included.
You won't see the Sort by column but it still applies a filter!
Thankfully, the hard part is remembering that this filter exists; removing it is easy. Within your ALL function include both the columns not just the visible one.
This applies to all column data types, not just dates!
