In a SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) report, you can create ad-hoc expressions to calculate new values. In the design view of the report each expression is displayed as a placeholder.
Every expression is called Expr by default, making it tricky to know what each one does!
You can make it easier to see what each calculation does by assigning a label to each placeholder.
To do this, click on the placeholder to select it, then right-click on it and choose to view its properties.
Choose Placeholder Properties... to open a dialog box.
On the dialog box which appears, enter a label for the placeholder then click OK.
In the Label box, enter a name for your placeholder.
Repeat this process for each expression to make it easy to see what each one does.
This should make it much easier to work with the report in design view.
