If you don't have copy of the Music_01 database, follow the instructions at the following link to create it: www.wiseowl.co.uk/sql/exercises/standard/using-sql-server/5257/
Open the Temp Chart Toppers.sql file. You'll find two queries which return the albums and singles which reached number 1 in the charts.
Use a CREATE TABLE statement to create a temporary table called #ChartToppers with columns as shown below:
Column name | Data type |
---|---|
Title | nvarchar(255) |
Artist | nvarchar(255) |
Release_date | date |
US_sales_(m) | float |
Release_type | nvarchar(6) |
If you want to test the script multiple times, you might find it useful to add a statement to drop the temporary table if it exists before creating it.
Use INSERT statements to store the results of the two queries in the temporary table.
Write a query to select everything from the temporary table, sorting the results by the Release_date.
Keep scrolling to find other artists.
Write another query which groups the rows in the temporary table by Artist and Release_type and calculates the aggregate values shown below:
These results are sorted by the Count_releases column.
Save and close the script.
