If you don't have a copy of the Music_01 database, follow the instructions at the following link to create it: www.wiseowl.co.uk/sql/exercises/standard/using-sql-server/5257/
Open the file called Declaration of Love.sql from the folder shown above. You'll find two queries to return a list of albums and songs whose titles contain the word love. Run the query to see the results:
It's a popular topic!
Above the first SELECT statement in the script, declare a variable called @NameContains with a data type of NVARCHAR(255). Set the value of this variable to '%love%'.
The simplest syntax to assign an initial value to a variable is:
DECLARE @VariableName DATATYPE = Value
Modify the WHERE clause of each query to refer to the value of the @NameContains variable instead of the text '%love%'.
Execute the script to make sure you see the same results.
Declare another variable according to the following table:
Variable name | Data type | Initial value |
---|---|---|
@ReleasedAfter | DATE | '1964-01-01' |
Modify each query to refer to the value of the new variable then execute the script to check the results are the same.
In between the two SELECT statements, add a SET statement to change the value of the @NameContains variable to '%hate%'.
Execute the script again to see the new results.
It's a thin line between love and whatever.
Try changing the values of the variables to return different results.
All's fair in...
Save the script and then close it.
