Create a PowerPoint macro writing slide information for an existing presentation to a new workbook in Excel

This exercise is provided to allow potential course delegates to choose the correct Wise Owl Microsoft training course, and may not be reproduced in whole or in part in any format without the prior written consent of Wise Owl.

Before you can do this exercise, you'll need to download and unzip this file .

Open the short PowerPoint presentation in the above folder (it's about the early career of Kylie Minogue - feel free to press the F5 function key to run the slide show if you should so desire!). Your aim is now to produce an Excel workbook containing summary slide information for this PowerPoint presentation, looking something like this:

Your workbook does not have to be neatly formatted like this

To achieve this create a module within this presentation, and within this create a subroutine called something like ListSlideInformationInExcel. This should:

Reference the correct Microsoft Excel object library.
Creates a new Excel workbook.
Put a heading row at the top.
Loop over all the slides in the ActivePresentation, writing the names for each and the number of slides to the Excel workbook.

Each slide has a Shapes collection, so something like ThisSlide.Shapes.Count would give you the number of slides.

Save your presentation with the same name, then close it down.

You can unzip this file to see the answers to this exercise, although please remember this is for your personal use only.
